The Port of Keelung today (July 16th) marked the final homeport voyage of the 2019 season by the Majestic Princess. Since the 2019 Keelung homeport season began for the Royal-class cruise ship on April 15th, the Majestic Princess has carried a total of 217,236 passengers (estimated) on 27 voyages (estimate) - an 8.4% increase over the 2018 season. Princess Cruises, the owner and operator of the Majestic Princess, remains bullish on the Taiwan cruise market and has announced plans to extend its Keelung homeport season next year in order to add additional cruise departures. Port administrators announced that Princess Cruises has decided to open its cruise season one month earlier next year (2020), with Keelung homeport voyages aboard the Majestic Princess commencing in March, and to wrap up the season one month later. This means the Majestic Princess’ distinctive horns will be heart wafting across Keelung harbor waters between late March and the end of August and that she will be carrying around 50,400 passengers aboard an additional 12 voyages. Following the Majestic Princess’ final departure this year, Princess Cruises’ Sun-class cruise ship Sun Princess, fresh from her round-the-world-cruise, will begin operating in the Port of Keelung from July 21st until mid-late September. In addition to Princess Cruises, Costa Cruises’ Costa Venezia, Dream Cruises’ World Dream, and Asia’s record-setting 171,598GT MSC Bellissima all have plans to expand their services at Keelung, making 2020 another year of high expectations for the Port of Keelung!
