The most recent public tender to invest in Phase 2 of the Port of Taichung Port Industries Development Zone was announced by the Port of Taichung, TIPC in early May of this year (2019). This tender, covering 18,585 square meters of land was awarded to Da Shen Transportation Co., Ltd., which submitted the best bid. After planned construction work is finished and operational, Da Shen’s new facilities will add 1.2ha of warehouse space, an estimated 18,000mt of new warehouse capacity, and an additional 320,000mt of annual handled warehouse / transit cargo volume to the Port of Taichung.
Da Shen Transportation is expected to sign the related contract documents on the 23rd of this month (July). Da Shen has plans to invest around NT$180 million in new logistics warehouse facilities, with construction slated to commence in 2020 and commercial operations scheduled to begin in 2021.
Da Shen Transportation currently administers a long-term lease on 5ha of land in the Port Industries Development Zone, where the company engages primarily in bulk cargo storage and logistics operations as well as several service businesses, including a convenience store, gas station, and vehicle maintenance & repair shop. The land in the newly won bid, which is located close to Da Shen Transportation’s current operations, will allow the company to provide even more comprehensive services, giving a significant competitive boost to the port’s logistics services sector.
The Port of Taichung notes that the 55ha of land in the Port Industries Development Zone that has yet to be tendered will be subdivided, zoned, and put up for public tender in a process that port administrators hope will promote the healthy development of business / industry clusters, maximize port land utilization, and effectively increase job opportunities in central Taiwan.
