The Port of Taichung, TIPC, working to link the port's water recreation and tourism potential to the newly opened Mitsui Outlet Park, has designated the far end of the port's central wharf district as a multifunctional shoreline tourism and recreation zone. Wharves 20A and 20B along the northwest side of the Mitsui Outlet Park is slated for development as a pleasure-craft marina. Related development plans have already submitted by prospective investors. A formal public invitation to bid for business operations at these two wharves and in the associated tourism / recreation commercial district will be posted in the near future. This zone is in the natural orbit of the adjacent Mitsui Outlet Park and conveniently close to area attractions such as the waterfront marina, Wuqi Fishing Harbor, the Gaomei Wetlands, Marine Ecology Museum, and Museum of Sustainable Green Energy. The overall project is expected to accelerate commercial development along Zhong 2nd Road, creating a diversified tourism and recreation corridor on the port's shoreline and stimulating the dynamic transformation of the Port of Taichung and the surrounding area. The upcoming marina bid will include the land adjacent to Warf Nos. 20A and 20B (currently zoned for tourism and recreation business use), covering a total land area of 6.7 hectares and a total water area of 4.9 hectares. Bid submissions will be welcomed from businesses interested and able to develop both land and water properties, with the successful bidder invited to plan and develop the zone in accordance with their plans and needs. In addition to developing marina piers and related facilities, the successful bidder will be able to develop the infrastructure necessary to provide marina-related tourism and support services on the property to attract the related business investment and operators necessary to transform the area into a comprehensive, new center of tourism and recreation.
