To realize the vision of a “new blue recreation economy,” the Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has been actively promoting yacht activities and expanding yacht berthing facilities. The MPB is committed to creating a yacht-friendly environment by developing yacht itineraries and diversified service functions, enabling the public to better engage with and appreciate the ocean. Comparing data from 2021 to 2025, the number of yacht operator licenses, dedicated yacht berths, and yacht registrations increased by 57%, 38%, and 35%, respectively. These figures demonstrate that, through the MPB’s strong commitment to promoting yachting, all major service indicators have shown marked growth, with the benefits of the emerging blue economy continuing to expand.
The MPB stated that, to popularize yacht activities, it established the “Taiwan Yacht Portal (YAPO)” as a one-stop service platform and has continued to optimize the platform annually. Website traffic has now exceeded 8.4 million visits. Concurrently, the MPB has promoted yachting through themed videos such as “First-Time Self-Operated Yacht Experience for a Budget-Conscious Girl,” with its YouTube channel attracting more than 66,000 views and effectively encouraging the public to obtain yacht operator licenses and experience self-operated yachting. The number of yacht operator licenses increased from 20,144 in 2021 to 31,637 in 2025, an increase of 11,493 licenses. Meanwhile, the number of yacht registrations grew from 1,208 vessels in 2021 to 1,636 vessels in 2025, an increase of 428 vessels, indicating that marine recreation has become a popular way for the public to engage with the ocean.
To further establish a yacht-friendly environment, the MPB has also launched initiatives to increase the number of yacht berths and offer diversified services to plan “Yacht Tourism Circuits.” By connecting routes around Taiwan’s main and offshore islands through “circumnavigation” and “island-hopping” itineraries, the MPB aims to achieve the sustainable development goal of shared prosperity and coexistence between fishing ports and the yacht industry. As interest in yacht activities continues to rise, the number of dedicated yacht berthing areas had expanded to 26 locations by the end of 2025, providing 1,437 berths. In 2026, this number is expected to further increase to 28 locations with a total of 1,537 berths, continuing to provide services for yacht enthusiasts.
The MPB will continue to promote yacht activities and further enhance Taiwan’s marine tourism environment, integrating ocean tourism into everyday life and fostering a new wave in the blue economy.
