This year marks the inauguration of the Maritime Safety Season, an initiative hosted by the Maritime and Port Bureau, MOTC (hereinafter abbreviated as “the MPB,”) featuring activities centered around three major themes: passenger ships, yachts, and floating devices. Through a promotional campaign, the MPB seeks to raise public awareness of precautionary measures to be taken when traveling by ship and the importance of navigation safety. The season officially kicked off on July 1, starting with passenger ship safety as the first chapter. In August, the spotlight turns to yachts, reminding the public the importance of adhering to navigation safety guidelines when operating or boarding a yacht. With more preparation, risks can be reduced. Safe and mindful sailing makes every journey happy and safe.
In recent years, the government has been vigorously advocating for a healthy respect for the sea, encouraging people in Taiwan to engage with the ocean. As part of this year’s Maritime Safety Season, the MPB places a special emphasis on yacht navigation safety to strengthen public awareness and safeguard personal safety. According to the MPB, the campaign features three key themes: (a) check equipment before departure: passengers choosing to board non-private yachts are assured of greater safety through purchasing insurance and performing inspections; (b) stay calm in emergencies: passengers are reminded not to panic when faced with danger; and (c) check weather conditions before setting out: passengers are advised to check marine and weather forecasts on the SafeOcean platform to ensure their navigation safety. The MPB stressed that these three themes will help yacht passengers avoid potential safety risks and adopt the correct safety measures in emergency situations, thereby allowing for a safe and smooth journey.
The MPB noted that the campaign slogan, “Yachting is Great, Follow Me for Your Safety” conveys the importance of yacht navigation safety through clear and simple language. A series of posters, brochures, yacht information for dummies, and short videos has been produced and distributed through major transportation hubs, media outlets, and public- and private-sector channels. By delivering concise and accessible information, the MPB ensures that the public can easily obtain the latest and most accurate maritime safety information during their travels or daily lives.
