To raise the public’s awareness of maritime safety and to promote national maritime transport safety policies, the Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) held a press conference today (July 1) to launch the “2025 Maritime Safety Season.” The event saw a number of distinguished guests including Department of Navigation and Aviation Director Chen-hua Han, Taiwan Navigation Co., Ltd. President Jong-lin Chyou, Taiwan Yacht & Sailboat Association Chairman Po-jui Chen, Taiwan Yacht Industry Association Secretary General Hsueh-chiao Chang, ROC Association for Floating Devices and Unlicensed Recreational Boats Chairman Tsung-yi Lin, and Tsang Jai Shipping Co., Ltd. General Manager Chung-sheng Chen. Timed with the height of summer maritime activities, the aforementioned event focuses on three major themes: passenger vessels and small passenger boats, yachts, and floating devices, promoting accurate maritime safety knowledge among the public.
The MPB noted that this is the first nationwide maritime safety awareness event and is divided into three main promotional themes: “passenger vessels and small passenger boats,” which preaches safety tips for passengers; “yachts,” which teaches the public how to correctly identify different yacht types; and “floating devices,” which emphasizes the registration of floating devices and personal locator beacons. To support the event, a series of educational materials such as posters, brochures, “information for dummies,” and short videos has been created and disseminated via major transportation hubs, media outlets, and public-private channels. With clear and accessible messaging, the event aims to ensure that the public can easily recive the latest maritime safety information during their daily lives and travels.
The press conference also featured a light-hearted skit to educate safety concepts, followed by a ceremonial launch event attended by all event guests. The event slogan, “Stay Alert When Sailing or Boarding – Sail Off Safely and Happily!,” was officially revealed, symbolizing the public and private sectors’ shared commitment to advancing maritime safety.
The MPB emphasized that with the summer peak of water activities underway, this campaign aims to enhance public understanding of maritime safety knowledge and policies, and to realize the campaign’s central tenet: “Stay Alert When Sailing or Boarding – Sail Off Safely and Happily!” Looking ahead, the MPB will continue to refine maritime safety regulations and policies to protect public rights and safety at sea, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a joyful and safe summer on the water.
