The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB), Ministry of Transportation and Communications, announced that the first maritime personnel examination of 2025 is being held today and tomorrow (March 8–9) at two examination sites: Hwa Hsia University of Technology in New Taipei City and Cheng Shiu University in Kaohsiung City. A total of 905 candidates registered for the examination, marking a record high in participation. Today’s examination covers the First-Class Deck Officer and Second-Class Engineer Officer categories. Of the 344 examinees scheduled for the first session, 313 were present, resulting in an attendance rate of 90.99%.

Maritime personnel examinations have consistently attracted students from marine engineering programs at maritime academic institutions, many of whom have successfully passed the exams. Passing the examination is not only the first step toward pursuing a seafaring career but also an essential step in embracing challenges and embarking on a new phase of life. Notably, female examinees account for 12.63% of the total examinees this year, with the proportion of female examinees registered for the First-Class Deck Officer category reaching 21.05%—both figures setting five-year records.  The MPB looks forward to welcoming more passionate, energetic, and confident individuals to join the maritime workforce.

The MPB also issued a reminder to ensure proper order during the examination. Examinees should refrain from bringing mobile phones into the examination sites. If bringing a phone is necessary, they must either entrust it to accompanying personnel for safekeeping or ensure that it is completely powered off and placed in the designated area at the front or back of the examination room. In the event of a perceptible earthquake during the examination, examinees must follow the invigilators’ instructions to take cover or evacuate in order to ensure their personal safety.

Additionally, the MPB reminded that examinees are strictly prohibited from carrying wearable devices or equipment with communication functions into the examination sites to avoid penalties for violations.

The results of this examination are scheduled to be announced on April 8. The examination questions and answers will be published on March 10 on the MPB’s MTNet Maritime Personnel Examination System (URL: https://el.mtnet.gov.tw/EL03/EL030201). If examinees have concerns regarding the examination questions, they must log into the system and submit an inquiry through the “Online Application” section by selecting “Examination Question Inquiry” within three days following the conclusion of the examination (i.e., by March 12). The results of these inquiries will also be published on the MTNet System for reference. The MPB wishes all examinees success in the examination and outstanding results.
