The Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications(MOTC) held a ceremony today (14th) to mark the official opening of the road in front of the Taichung Museum of Marine Biology. The event was attended by MPB Director-General Hsieh-Lung Yeh, Legislators Chi-Chang Tsai and Chiung-Ying Yang, Taichung City Councilor Li-Jen Wang, Taichung City Council Speaker Ching-Chao Chang, Deputy Speaker Li-Min Yen, Councilors Tien-Chung Yang and Ting-Hsiu Chen, as well as office directors and assistants of various legislators. Also, present were Yu-Chun Lin, Chief Secretary of the Taichung City New Construction Office; Chin-Tsung Chang, Chief Engineer of the Taichung Harbor Branch of Taiwan International Ports Corporation; and heads of various administrative agencies from the Taichung Harbor district. Together, they celebrated the event, anticipating further growth in tourism and transportation in central Taiwan.
Director-General Yeh expressed his gratitude to Legislator Tsai for his forward-thinking and strategic planning. To accommodate the future operations of the Taichung Museum of Marine Biology and the Green Energy Museum, Legislator Tsai coordinated efforts ith the Fisheries Agency three years ago, enabling the MPB to allocate NT$66.5 million for the acquisition of land for this road through compensated appropriation. Director-General Yeh also acknowledged Legislator Yang for her continual support in the development of Taichung’s commercial and fishing ports, as well as her efforts in facilitating communication with the Taichung District Fishermen’s Association to help realize the road’s opening. Additionally, the Director-General thanked the Taichung City Council for working with the Taichung City Government to allocate approximately NT$12 million for road surface improvements and the reconstruction of facilities at the Beiti Road intersection. He also extended his appreciation to the Taichung District Fishermen’s Association, local borough chiefs, and Taiwan International Ports Corporation for their support and assistance in promoting the development of tourism and transportation in the Taichung Harbor area.
Legislator Tsai stated that he had been concerned about traffic issues following the future opening of the Taichung Museum of Marine Biology as early as three years ago. He actively coordinated efforts to secure funding for the MPB to acquire the road and open it to the public. With the progressive opening of the Taichung Museum of Marine Biology and the Green Energy Museum, this road is expected to become an indispensable infrastructure, effectively alleviating the influx of tourists and seamlessly connecting major attractions such as the Wuqi Fishing Harbor tourism area and the offshore fishing zone. This development will provide the public with a more convenient and safer transportation network, further boosting tourism along Taichung’s coastal region. Legislator Yang also emphasized that the opening of this road serves as a model example of collaboration between the central and local governments in promoting regional development. She highlighted the principle that economic growth follows the development of transportation infrastructure, noting that this road will not only relieve traffic pressure on the nation’s first locally constructed marine ecology museum but also enhance overall traffic flow along the coast, thereby stimulating local economic prosperity.
The MPB further noted that the road’s opening will serve as a critical link in Taichung’s coastal transportation network. To the north, it will connect Beiti Road to Gaomei Lighthouse and Gaomei Wetlands; to the south, it will link Wuqi Fishing Harbor and the Mitsui Outlet Park, among other tourist destinations. Additionally, it will provide seamless access to major highways to the east, including Provincial Highway 17 and Provincial Highway 61. Overall, the road is expected to integrate with the Taichung MRT Blue Line in the future, offering the public a more diverse and comfortable travel experience. This development will inject new momentum into Taichung’s transportation infrastructure and tourism industry, fostering further growth and vitality.
