In response to the recent increased ridership on the Kinmen Mini Three Links shipping routes and the anticipated transportation needs during the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year holidays, the Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) coordinated with multiple shipping companies to plan voyages based on actual transportation requirements. On January 3rd, it was announced that starting from January 14th, 2025, the Kinmen–Xiamen shipping route will increase from 10 to 12 round trips per day (4 additional voyages), and the Kinmen–Quanzhou shipping route will increase from 1 to 2 round trips per day (2 additional voyages). This adjustment totals 6 additional voyages per day with 1,676 seats, which means the increment is more than 20%. This adjustment is expected to bring high passenger loads down during the peak periods. As for the voyages before January 14, temporary services will be initiated to reduce the increased ridership if it’s necessary. The voyages for February 2025 will be published on January 10th as usual, and the increase voyages will be arranged to meet the demand.

According to the MPB, the number of passengers the Kinmen Mini Three Links shipping routes have considerably increased since November 2024. With the approach of the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays, the transportation demand of citizens returning to home town is expected to increase. After a comprehensive assessment, the MPB announced the aforementioned adjustments. From January 14th to 31th, additional voyages of the Kinmen–Xiamen shipping route will include ferries departing from Kinmen at 9:00 a.m. and returning from Xiamen at 10:00 a.m. (the same ferry), and ferries departing from Xiamen at 4:00 p.m. and returning from Kinmen at 5:00 p.m. (the same ferry). In addition, the Kinmen–Quanzhou shipping route which will have two additional round trips per day starting from January 14th will have Quanzhou departures scheduled at 8:30 AM and 11:10 AM, with return trips from Kinmen at 9:50 AM and 4:35 PM.

The MPB further announced that, to ensure high-quality passenger services, ferry schedules will be reviewed and adjusted depending on transportation demand on a rolling basis. Temporary ferry services will be initiated as required to accommodate sudden increases on ridership, ensuring that the transportation requirements for the Kinmen Mini Three Links shipping routes are met. Updated schedules will be published for all ferry routes in the dedicated section of the MPB’s official website (https://www.motcmpb.gov.tw/BoatSchedule?SiteId=1&NodeId=380) for passenger access. Travelers can make reservations through the booking application of Kinmen-based Wujiang Ferry Co. Ltd., phone the respective shipping companies, or make reservations at the Wujiang Ferry Co.
